Jerry lives in Great Falls Montana and his question was “How do you find out if someone has a life insurance policy before they died?”

Great Falls Montana is located in Cascade county. Great Falls takes its name from the series of waterfalls that the Lewis and Clark Expedition had to portage around, requiring 31 days of arduous labor, in their 1805-06 exploration of the Louisiana Purchase. Two undeveloped parts of their portage route are land marked within the Great Falls Portage National Historic Landmark. The city is home to the C. M. Russell Museum Complex, the University of Great Falls, Giant Springs, the Roe River (world’s shortest river), and the Montana School for the Deaf and the Blind, as well as the Great Falls Voyagers minor league baseball{formally known as the Great Falls White Sox} team.

Answer to Jerry’s question: Check among all their important documents, the safety deposit box, call any and all agents or companies they may have done business with for auto and home insurance, investments, retirement planning, etc. Call the lawyer, the accountant etc. Here’s are some tips:

Also check out WWW.POLICYLOCATOR.COM. They have a large database of insurance applicants available to the public and the cost is relatively cheap considering the value of what they might uncover. You will need to provide a death certificate and a notarized application – probably a good thing from a privacy perspective.

If that doesn’t work try:

If the house and car were insured, start with the local agents who sold those policies. Insurance companies usually keep track of customer names and Social Security numbers.

If the policy was active, a premium notice eventually will come in the mail. Look for cancelled insurance checks.

Private firms specialize in finding lost life insurance for a fee. Search the Internet for “Life Benefits Search” or “Lost Life Insurance Finder.”

Readers question: “What is cash-value life insurance?”

Butte Montana is a city in Silver Bow County. In its heyday between the late 19th century and about 1920, it was one of the largest and most notorious copper boomtowns in the American West, home to hundreds of saloons and a famous red-light district. Butte is the only city in the United States where possession and consumption of open containers of alcoholic beverages always are allowed on the street throughout the entire city.

Answer to readers question: Cash-value policies—also known as “whole life: policies—provide a death benefit and a savings account. Insurance salespeople often highlight the “forced savings” aspect of cash-value insurance. Part of your premiums go into a reserve fund—or accumulation fund—that builds up over the years your policy is in effect. If you drop the coverage, you get back the cash surrender value—the value of the reserve fund minus the amount you are paying for the life insurance death benefit (mortality charge), commissions, administrative expenses, fees and charges. You can also borrow against the cash-value of your policy.

There are just a few basic types of cash-value policies, but insurers offer hundreds of variations under different names. Ask your agent or insurer if it is a term or cash-value policy.

Ned loves the outdoors and he lives in Billings, Montana, he wanted to know: “Do you have any chances to get a life insurance if you were once declined due to medical history but currently you are in good health?”

Billings is the largest city in the state of Montana and is nicknamed Magic City because of its rapid growth from its founding as a railroad town in 1882. There are a number of activities in and around Billings. You can go hiking, rock climbing, mountain climbing, fish, art walks and rodeos. The Wine and Food Festival is held in May. Billings has several attractions such as Yellowstone Art Museum, Moss Mansion Historic House Museum, the Western Heritage Center, the Billing Depot and Skypoint.

Ned the answer to your question is: Yes, some insurance companies do not ask any health question at all. Most of these are “term Life Insurance”, but when filling any forms you should answer all the health questions honestly or your policy could be cancelled later.

You can can term life with a little higher rate depending on your health and how long you have been in good health. Please note that there will be some increase in your rate as you get older but the amount of life insurance will stay the same, until you reach the age of 75 or 80, then you will no longer be insured. You may be able to get Whole Life Insurance if the reason you were declined has changed for the better and enough time has passed since you have been “In Good Health.”

Find an insurance agent who can try to place you with more than just one company.
